Language Philosophy

In accordance with Classical Academy standards, all children will learn Classical Latin and Greek. This allows them to read the great ancient authors in the languages in which they wrote. All children will also be instructed in Russian from the time they enter preK. We are fortunate to have a relationship with a school in Russia (where children study English from preK) and we will, God willing, participate in an exchange program with the Russian school when students are in the high school years. For now the children in the elementary grades will be able to communicate with the young children from Russia and begin to build relationships as pen pals. How wonderful it will be for them to meet years later through the exchange program! We encourage our parents to see to it that their children, if they are not of Russian heritage, acquire the language of their ancestors, be that Finnish, Greek, Georgian, or some other language. The study of languages has consistently been shown to lead to better educational outcomes for those students who pursue them than for those who do not. It is our intention to offer additional modern languages in the high school grades, such as French, Spanish, and/or German.
